Modern Mantel: The Remix

Do you ever get all your inspiration for a project gathered, lay out all your supplies and start working and then realize it’s not quite right and scrap it all? That happened to me yesterday when I started decorating our mantel for the holidays. With this being the first holiday time in our new home, I really wanted it to feel special. I had some fabulous inspriation and fun decor items. So what went wrong?

Well, first off, all the decorative pieces I had are from our apartment. While totally adorable, they are small! What felt huge in our apartment was drowning on our large fireplace mantel!

Second, our fireplace sits right next to a bookcase filled with our favorite books and accessories. So too much color and texture on the fireplace made the whole space feel a little messy and cluttered.

So what’s next? We’re going simpler, with whites, blues, brass and gold.

I still need a few more pieces, but once it’s ready, I’ll share some photos with everyone!
