Such a gem

This is a style that is really beautiful and I’ve been seeing all over the place but didn’t know what it was called until I started doing a little research. It’s called “faceted”–essentially creating shapes by cutting the material like you would a gem stone. It’s so modern yet organic and can (clearly) be executed in so many ways. It’s facet-nating! (Did I take the pun too far?…)

I can totally see that pendant hanging in our (new!) entry way. What’s your favorite?

This is a bookcase

This feels like a very philosophical title for a blog post, but that’s not my intention. I just think it is so amazing that this gorgeous piece is a bookcase!

I wonder if you can get any letters you want and spell some great words instead of displaying the whole alphabet. Regardless, it is super cool.

Wednesday Whimsy

To get you through hump day, I thought I’d share some design that will (hopefully) make your smile. I’m a big fan of humor, whimsy and personality in my home decor. Your home should make you happy, so why not have the things in your home make you giggle every time you walk by?

These bowler pendant lights are so fantastic!

The “Shut the front door” print has always been a favorite of mine.

Or take the humor outside. Check out this garden chair—it’s made of metal but mimics the look of a traditional tufted chair. Love.

Hope it made you smile!

Brilliant DIY: Bookcase Divider

Bookcases as room dividers is certainly not a new idea, but this execution is brilliant. When the Hello Tenfold stationary studio gave their space a make-over, they needed both storage and a way to divide the space. So, they wallpapered the back of a bookcase, creating a gorgeous lobby area while also be incredibly functional.

I LOVE this idea. How great would it be in a space that doesn’t have a true foyer?

You can see more of their very cute studio make-over here.

Happy (Winey) Weekend

I have an exciting weekend ahead! I’m heading up to Russian River wine country for some birthday wine tasting with my fabulous friends.

Hopefully some highlights from our trip next week. In the meantime, I hope our trip looks a little something like this.

Lazy Sunday

Perhaps this is will become a weekly theme: lazy Sundays. How badly do you want to be in one of these right now? Maybe with some a hot Chai tea latte and some popcorn…. Yes, please.

Clever Cutting

I am a big fan of America’s Test Kitchen (my fiancé calls it food porn), and they are always full of fantastic cooking tips and tricks. One this past weekend caught me eye because it is so easy, makes so much sense and, oh yeah, it’s free!

When you are chopping, tuck a paper towel under the top side of your cutting board. Then, as you cut pieces of food that you aren’t going to use, like the leaves on celery or the seeds of a bell pepper, just sweep it on to the paper towel. When you are done chopping, you can just scoop up all the scraps and throw them away (or, better yet, compost them). Dang, I wish I had thought of that!

If that’s too low-tech for you, here are some slightly more advanced (but certainly no less cool) cutting boards.

So…..we bought a house.

I’m still in total shock. After about three years of searching, three weeks of negotiations and one day where we were sure it wasn’t going to happen, it has finally all come together. We are buying a house!

I’m anxious, nervous, in shock (I think I mentioned that)–but mostly, I’m excited! This is the place we will build our roots, perhaps raise our kids and it is going to be a wonderful process. I can’t wait for our first dinner party, for drinking wine in the backyard in the summer and for my sunny new office!

While Design Bright will continue to focus on clever and beautiful design, I’ll be sprinkling in some home inspiration, DIY projects and ideas.

Here’s some inspiration I love that I would love to bring to our new home!

Cool Stuff: Present & Correct

Stumbled across this site Present & Correct and found some really cool, modern and multi-purposed products. I particularly love the idea of using the scrabble board as small shelves for cards and photos. Very cool. Or an eraser with a brush on the other end? Oh so clever.
